What: The Brass Junkies Academy Summer Workshop is a five-day workshop with 15 of the best brass players in the world hosted by Andrew Hitz & Lance LaDuke. Each day features three clinics plus a daily hang with special guests hosted by The Brass Junkies. The workshop is open to all ages but recommended for high school and above.

When: The original workshop took place June 22nd-26th, however all 20 hours of amazing artist interviews and hangs now live online for access to all participants. Missed out the first time? Who: Our faculty comes from the finest orchestras (including the New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra), military bands (President's Own Marine Band, U.S. Air Force Band) and chamber ensembles (Boston Brass, Seraph Brass, Imani Winds) in the world! These 15 artists have a combined 300 years of performing and teaching experience to share with you!

BONUS GUEST ARTISTS JULY 21ST:


Tage Larsen has been a member of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra since 2002. Before that he was a member of the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra, Annapolis Symphony Orchestra, and he served as the solo cornet with The “President’s Own” U.S. Marine Band. Tage teaches at the DePaul School of Music.

Mary Bowden is a founding member of Seraph Brass and the Chrysalis Chamber Players. She has also won competitions and appeared as a soloist all over the world. Mary teaches at Shenandoah Conservatory.

Jose Sibaja plays lead trumpet with Boston Brass. He is also one of the most in demand jazz, latin and commercial players in the world who has had television appearances in over 40 countries. He teaches at the Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt University.

JD Shaw is the former horn player, arranger and creative director for Boston Brass. He has appeared all over the world as a soloist, chamber musician and teacher. He is currently the Music Director for Phantom Regiment and teaches at the University of South Carolina.

Jennifer Montone is the Principal Horn of the Philadelphia Orchestra and a world acclaimed soloist, chamber musician and teacher. She teaches at the Curtis Institute of Music and the Juilliard School.

Jeff Scott is the horn player for Imani Winds as well as an in demand arranger and composer. He has played extensively on Broadway and recorded with the likes of Chick Corea, Wayne Shorter and Chris Brubeck. Jeff teaches at Oberlin Conservatory.

Joe Alessi is the Principal Trombone of the New York Philharmonic and is a former member of the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Montreal Symphony Orchestra. He has given recitals and appeared as a soloist with orchestras and concert bands all over the world. He teaches at the Juilliard School.

Donna Parkes is the Principal Trombone of the Louisville Orchestra and was formerly a member of the San Francisco Symphony and the Utah Symphony. She is also the Principal Trombone of the Colorado Music Festival.

John Lofton is the Bass Trombone of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. He has also performed with the Cleveland Orchestra, the San Francisco Symphony and the Santa Fe Opera. John teaches at California State University Long Beach.

Demondrae Thurman is a member of the Brass Band of Battle Creek and the Sotto Voce Quartet. He has also appeared with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Atlanta Symphony and North Carolina Symphony. He teaches at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.

Gail Robertson is a member of the Pinnacle Brass and is a regular clinician of both jazz and classical all over the world. She was also a member of the world famous Tubafours at Walt Disney World and has performed with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Detroit Symphony Orchestra and the Cleveland Orchestra's Blossom Festival Band. She teaches at the University of Central Arkansas.

Hiram Diaz is a member of the President's Own Marine Band in Washington, D.C and the High Bridge Brass. He has also appeared with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and the National Symphony Orchestra. He regularly teaches across the United States as a clinician and visiting artist.

Carol Jantsch is the Principal Tuba of the Philadelphia Orchestra, a position she won at the age of 20. She has appeared as a soloist all over the world and teaches at the Yale University School of Music and Temple University’s Boyer College of Music

Patrick Sheridan is one of the most prolific soloists in the history of the tuba. He has performed over 3,000 concerts in over 50 countries and is the co-author of The Breathing Gym. He is a former member of the President's Own Marine Band and is currently the music director of the Salt River Brass while soloing and teaching all over the world.

Richard White is the Principal Tuba of the New Mexico Symphony and is the star of the award-winning documentary R.A.W. Tuba, a film all about his remarkable life. He has also appeared with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Malaysian Philharmonic and the Canadian Brass. Richard teaches at New Mexico State University.


YOUR HOSTS:Andrew Hitz is the former tuba player for Boston Brass. During his 14 years with the group he performed and taught in over 30 countries and 40 states. He has also performed with the National Symphony Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and the Kennedy Center Honors Orchestra.

Lance LaDuke is the former euphonium player for Boston Brass as well as for the United States Air Force Band and the River City Brass Band. He has also appeared with the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. Lance teaches at Carnegie Mellon University.
