What: The workshop features clinics with five of the best trumpet players in the world hosted by The Brass Junkies, Andrew Hitz & Lance LaDuke. In addition to three trumpet clinics you also get to play along with a warm-up class and learn all about developing a successful approach to auditions with a "Winning The Audition" clinic. The workshop is open to all ages but recommended for high school and above.

Learn about every aspect of trumpet playing: improving the high register, establishing a practice routine, warming-up, auditioning, dealing with performance anxiety, breathing exercises specifically for trumpet and more!

Mary Bowden - Warm-Up Class

Mary Bowden is a founding member of Seraph Brass and the Chrysalis Chamber Players. She has also won competitions and appeared as a soloist all over the world. Mary teaches at Shenandoah Conservatory.

Chris Martin - Clinic #1

Chris Martin is the Principal Trumpet of the New York Philharmonic. He was previously the Principal Trumpet of the Chicago Symphony and Atlanta Symphony. Chris teaches at The Juilliard School.

Billy Hunter - Clinic #2

Billy Hunter is the Principal Trumpet of the Metropolitan Opera and Assistant Principal Trumpet of the Grant Park Symphony Orchestra. Billy teaches at Peabody Conservatory.

Tom Hooten - Winning the Audition

Tom Hooten is the Principal Trumpet of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. He was previously a member of the "President's Own" United States Marine Band, the Indianapolis Symphony and the Atlanta Symphony. Tom teaches at the University of Southern California.

Michael Sachs - Clinic #3

Michael Sachs has been the Principal Trumpet of the Cleveland Orchestra for 32 years. He was previously a member of the Houston Symphony. Michael teaches at Northwestern University and the Cleveland Institute of Music.

Warm-Up Class: Participate in a group warm-up led by Mary Bowden.

Winning the Audition: Hear Tom Hooten describe in detail how he prepared for the various auditions he has won in his career including Principal Trumpet of the LA Philharmonic, Principal Trumpet of the Atlanta Symphony and Trumpet with the “President’s Own” Marine Band. Also hear him go into detail about what the actual audition looked like, from how the audition was set up to how he managed to stay at his best mentally and physically throughout the entire process.

Andrew Hitz and Lance LaDuke

Andrew Hitz is the former tuba player for Boston Brass. During his 14 years with the group he performed and taught in over 30 countries and 40 states. He has also performed with the National Symphony Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and the Kennedy Center Honors Orchestra.

Lance LaDuke is the former euphonium player for Boston Brass as well as for the United States Air Force Band and the River City Brass Band. He has also appeared with the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. Lance teaches at Carnegie Mellon University.
